Biography
Brittany Robinson, BA graduated from Yale University in 2014 where she majored in Political Science. As a senior, she completed a thesis entitled “The Role of External Actors in State-Led Development Initiatives.” During her time at Yale, she became increasingly interested and involved in global health work, which has carried forward through her career at UCSF.
As a first-year medical student, she was honored with the Summer Explore Research Fellowship via the UCSF Resource Allocation Program for trainees to conduct her research project, “Identifying the Role of Project Champions in Implementing Institutionalized Quality Improvement Practices at Facilities Delivering HIV Care in Haiti.” Ultimately, her research interests center around how global surgery partnerships can be leveraged to bolster sustainable surgical infrastructure abroad and inform cost-effective care in the United States. She will further hone her interests and develop valuable global surgery research experience as a 2019-2020 Fulbright-Fogarty Fellow in Public Health. With additional support from the 2019-2020 UCSF Yearlong Research Fellowship, she will be evaluating perceived reasons for in-hospital delays to emergency surgical care and the feasibility of post-discharge follow-up at Kamuzu Central Hospital in Malawi under the mentorship of Anthony Charles, MD, MPH, Rebecca Maine, MD, MPH, and Micheal Lipnick, MD.
